Which teams for the fifth Gym Battle? Eight weaknesses recalculated with supports

By SciPocket · October 29, 2026

The upcoming weaknesses are Fighting, Electric, Ground, Fire, Psychic, Ghost, Rock, and Bug. We narrowed the original 18-type comparison to these eight, requiring at least one sync pair with Support as its base role or an unlocked Support EX Role.

Official information and the two comparison conditions

Event periodDecember 3, 2026, 15:00–December 10, 2026, 14:59 (JST)
WeaknessFighting, Electric, Ground, Fire, Psychic, Ghost, Rock, and Bug
Extra Battles: round 4 onwardOnly Normal-type or super-effective attacks deal damage. Super-effective damage increases by 50%.
Opponent HPApproximately 25% higher than previous Gym Battles from Extra Battle round 4 onward, where the additional rules apply.

The announced special rules include immunity to special attacks, immunity to attack damage while the opponent has neither a status condition nor interference, and a two-slot reduction to the allied move-gauge cap. The announcement does not identify the opponents or assign rules to individual stages, so special damage is not treated as blocked in every battle.

The announcement does not include immunity to physical attacks. We therefore compare special-damage immunity with no damage-category restriction, without adding a physical-immunity condition. Procedures for stages requiring status conditions or interference will be checked once the opponents’ details are known.

Comparison across the eight weaknesses

The “special-damage immunity” condition counts physical attacks only. The “no damage-category restriction” condition counts both physical and special attacks, comparing the original article’s physical and special candidates together. The latter is not a ranking of special teams alone.

Both assume the shared rules from Extra Battle round 4 onward: only Normal-type or weakness-hitting attacks count, with an additional 50% applied to super-effective attacks. These are reference estimates. Maintaining status conditions or interference, the two-slot gauge-cap reduction, opponent HP, and survival are not simulated.

Opponents’ actions, resistances, Defense, and Sp. Def differ between stages, so this table alone cannot establish which stage is easiest. A separate comparison with Normal as the main attacking type is outside this article’s scope.

Fire teams and the Bug team for special-damage immunity were chosen with attention to main-attacker and field synergy, plus healing and defense from the support slots, as well as the index. This additional review is limited to Fire, Psychic, and Bug; the other five types retain recalculations of their existing candidates.

  3. Bianca (Champion) & Virizion Support EX RoleView the adopted sync grid· 69 / 70

Support slots:Arc Suit Korrina & Lucario、Bianca (Champion) & Virizion.

Arc Suit Korrina & Lucario:Provides approximately 40% team HP healing and gradual healing, with successful attacks raising team Defense and Sp. Def by two ranks. It also reduces incoming damage; after Mega Evolution, the Trainer move grants Damage Guard Next to the user.

This pair qualifies through its unlocked Support EX Role. Its base role is Multi; a Support EX Role alone does not guarantee tanking ability or survival. Its buddy moves are sealed when the user is in a pinch. Healing and defensive stat increases are not added to the firepower index.

Bianca (Champion) & Virizion:A defensive Circle and master passive reduce move damage received by allies. The buddy move lowers the opponent’s Attack and Sp. Atk by three ranks; successful attacks raise the team’s Speed and evasiveness.

This pair qualifies through its unlocked Support EX Role. Its base role is Strike; a Support EX Role alone does not guarantee tanking ability or survival. It has no ally HP healing or status removal in its base moves and skills, and increased evasiveness does not guarantee avoiding hits.

Support slots:Hilbert & Thundurus (Incarnate Forme)、Lucas (Champion) & Dialga (Origin Forme)、Red (1996) & Pikachu (Before “The Original Thunder”).

Hilbert & Thundurus (Incarnate Forme):The buddy move lowers the target’s Sp. Atk by three ranks and sets up Special Damage Reduction. Successful attacks raise the whole team’s Sp. Def; the Trainer move grants gradual healing to one ally, and landing hits restores move gauge.

This pair qualifies through its unlocked Support EX Role. Its base role is Field; a Support EX Role alone does not guarantee tanking ability or survival. Gradual healing from the Trainer move affects the one selected ally, rather than instantly healing the whole team.

Lucas (Champion) & Dialga (Origin Forme):Raises the whole team’s Defense and Sp. Def by four ranks and deploys a defensive Circle on entry. Provides approximately 40% team HP healing, removes status conditions and interference, and reduces incoming damage through its master passive.

Healing is limited by move uses. Successful-attack effects attached to Dragon attacks need checking when their damage is blocked under the eight upcoming weaknesses.

Red (1996) & Pikachu (Before “The Original Thunder”):The Trainer move fully restores the user’s HP and removes the user’s status conditions and interference. A master passive and three Kanto Circle effects also help protect allies.

This pair qualifies through its unlocked Support EX Role. Its base role is Tech; a Support EX Role alone does not guarantee tanking ability or survival. Self-healing is not team healing. Circle damage reduction depends on the Circle type, regional team composition, and duration.

Candidates for Fire-weak opponents

For Fire, we select teams whose main attacker, field effects, healing, and defensive support work together. For special-damage immunity, we adopt Lyra (Champion) & Entei, Arc Suit Silver & Ho-Oh, and Leaf (Champion) & Moltres at 5.776 billion. The three Fire pairs combine Silver’s EX sunny weather and Fire rebuffs with Leaf’s physical-move master passive and stat reductions.

We also compared a team with Archie (Fall 2026) & Wo-Chien. With identical grids for the two main pairs and the same search width, it scores 5.801 billion, about 0.43% above the Leaf team. The choice also considers Leaf’s Potion, physical move damage reduction, and team protection against status conditions and interference in sunny weather. Silver’s and Leaf’s unlocked Support EX Roles satisfy the support requirement for the physical condition.

With no damage-category restriction, Chi-Yu is the main special attacker. Sygna Suit Lysandre (Alt.) & Chi-Yu, Arc Suit Silver & Ho-Oh, and Sygna Suit Morty & Ho-Oh score 6.404 billion. The team uses the synergy of three Fire pairs and EX sunny weather, with Morty providing team healing in sun, Potion, and Defense, Sp. Def, and move-gauge support. Chi-Yu’s special damage does not count under special-damage immunity.

Morty’s adopted grid uses 69 energy, selecting Vigilance, increased Potion healing, team Defense on the first Sunny Day, and team gradual healing after Sunny Day. Support choices consider healing and defensive preparation as well as the index. The displayed route does not guarantee healing timed to incoming attacks or survival for 270 seconds.

Arc Suit Silver & Ho-Oh:Uses Recover, automatic healing at half HP or less that consumes a move use, and six-rank Defense and Sp. Def buffs to protect itself. Also reduces move damage received by the whole team and grants team Endure when its buddy move has one use remaining.

This pair qualifies through its unlocked Support EX Role. Its base role is Multi; a Support EX Role alone does not guarantee tanking ability or survival. Automatic healing consumes a Recover use. The buddy move requires at least 50% HP.

Leaf (Champion) & Moltres:Potion restores about 40% of one ally’s HP, while the master passive reduces the whole team’s damage from physical moves by 25–31%, depending on the number of Kanto pairs. Pokémon status moves targeting opponents also lower their Attack and Sp. Atk; in sunny weather, all allies are protected against status conditions, flinching, confusion, and being trapped.

This pair qualifies through its unlocked Support EX Role. Its base role is Tech; a Support EX Role alone does not guarantee tanking ability or survival. The damage reduction applies to physical moves, and protection against status conditions and interference requires sunny weather. Whether Potion and stat-lowering moves are used in the index route, and whether the opponents’ stats can be lowered, needs a separate check.

Sygna Suit Morty & Ho-Oh:Potion restores about 40% of one ally’s HP, while a passive heals all allies when the user uses a move in sunny weather. Believe! raises the team’s Defense, Sp. Def, and Speed and accelerates the move gauge; the first Pokémon status move also raises five team stats, including Defense and Sp. Def.

This is a base-role Support, but the firepower route does not guarantee that sunny weather is maintained or healing and defensive moves are used; survival as a tank is unevaluated. Vigilance, gradual healing, and increased healing are additional effects from selected grid panels, distinct from Superawakening effects such as sunny-weather extension.

Candidates for Psychic-weak opponents

Arc Suit Sabrina is included even under special-damage immunity. EX Psychic Terrain deployed by the Trainer move also strengthens physical Psychic attacks. Sabrina’s own special attacks count as zero while she supports the main attacker, Hilda (Champion) & Iron Leaves. Sabrina has neither Support as her base role nor a Support EX Role, so Rosa (Champion) & Meloetta stays on the team.

Under special-damage immunity, the Arc Suit Sabrina team scores 4.438 billion. Reoptimizing the original Sygna Suit Lana & Tapu Lele team’s grid brings it to 4.353 billion, so Sabrina’s team is about 1.94% higher under the same conditions. Both teams’ grids and action orders were reoptimized for the support comparison.

With no damage-category restriction, the same Sabrina team scores 5.900 billion, about 13.76% above the original three pairs’ reoptimized 5.186 billion. We adopted Sabrina’s team for both conditions in this additional comparison.

EX Psychic Terrain is not assumed to last for all 270 seconds. The displayed route also maintains it through successful-attack refreshes from Sabrina’s zero-damage buddy move. Whether those refreshes work will be checked after the event begins and evaluated separately from the terrain reliably deployed by her Trainer move.

Candidates for Bug-weak opponents

Benga can support a physical Bug team even under special-damage immunity. Benga & Volcarona’s own special attacks count as zero. The team instead uses EX Bug Zone after his max move, Zone extension, allies’ sync-move power increases, and Super Effective ↑ Next. He remains a candidate for those support effects even when his special damage does not count.

Under special-damage immunity, Florian (Alt.) & Yanmega is the physical main attacker, Benga supplies field effects and sync support, and Bugsy (Holiday 2024) & Kricketune is the base-role Support. The reference index is 4.334 billion. Bugsy can use physical Bug moves and provides a defensive Circle, healing, status removal, and Physical Moves ↑ Next.

Reoptimizing the original Leaf & Beedrill team’s grid raised it to 8.019 billion. For this article, we chose a candidate where Benga and a base-role Support’s roles work together, rather than deciding solely by the highest index. How often healing and defense can actually be used will be checked once the opponents’ actions are known.

With no damage-category restriction, we retain the existing Arc Suit Alder, Benga, and Lucas (Champion) team. It can also use Benga’s special attacks, Sp. Def reductions, and Special Moves ↑ Next. This does not represent a new optimization of every candidate for this condition.

Bugsy (Holiday 2024) & Kricketune:Johto Solidarity deploys a defensive Circle and grants Physical and Special Moves ↑ Next to all allies. A passive also raises the team’s Defense and Sp. Def by two ranks when the user deploys a Circle. Bugs’ Singing Leech Life, a physical Bug buddy move available during a Circle, heals the user and all allies; the teamwide portion restores about 10% of maximum HP.

The buddy move requires an allied Circle. Check whether the Circle can be maintained and the move is available when healing is needed. Random stat drops or stat stealing are not counted as guaranteed Defense drops. The rule requiring a status condition or interference before damage can be dealt needs a separate check. When using Florian’s Hypnosis or similar moves, also check opponent resistance, removal, and reapplication.

3 sync moves. The index does not evaluate how often healing or defensive support must be used, or whether the team can withstand the opponents’ attacks.

Support slots:Lucas (Champion) & Dialga (Origin Forme).

What to check in your support slot to last 270 seconds

Every team must include at least one base-role Support or unlocked Support EX Role. Whether a pair with a Support EX Role can withstand sustained attacks needs a separate check. The adopted grids are for this comparison; even grids with healing or defensive panels do not guarantee optimal durability against a particular opponent or survival.

  • Tanking and healing:Check who takes attacks, available healing uses, and whether there is time to spend actions on healing.
  • Defense, Sp. Def, and critical hits:Check defensive buffs matching the opponents’ attack categories, critical-hit protection, and damage reduction.
  • Status conditions and interference:Check not only whether a condition can be inflicted, but also opponent resistance and reapplication after it ends.
  • Move gauge:Where the gauge cap is four, check free moves, acceleration, low-cost moves, and actual waiting time.

Using actions for healing or defensive support changes firepower relative to the displayed route. Once the event begins, comparisons will prioritize routes that account for the opponents’ attacks and defensive needs.

Calculation settings and limits of these estimates

  • Starting from the original article’s 80 saved teams—eight types × physical/special × five candidates—we added comparisons of Fire supports, Arc Suit Sabrina for Psychic, and Benga for Bug. This is not an exhaustive search of all sync-pair combinations.
  • The initial 80 teams kept their three pairs and grids fixed. For the additional Fire, Psychic, and Bug comparisons, legal grids were reselected for the existing teams as well. The other five types did not receive the same grid reoptimization.
  • Move level 5, a grid energy limit of 70, 6★ EX, EX Roles, and supported Superawakening effects are enabled. Three tickets, starting sync buff 5, three opponents, and 270 seconds. The approximate clock assumes three allied actions plus one opponent action per 19-second cycle.
  • All 80 teams were compared at the same search width. The top two candidates for each type and condition, plus the additional comparisons, were recalculated with a wider search. We retained known higher-scoring routes and checked adopted-route replay consistency, grid connectivity and energy, and the presence of a support.
  • Defense and Sp. Def drops are enabled for comparison, with no opponent-specific preset. This does not establish the actual opponents’ stats, resistances, or actions.

The reference calculation applies Normal-type eligibility and the additional 50% for super-effective attacks. Public tool links instead open a baseline that scores only weakness-hitting attacks with the same three pairs, grids, and action order. The extra multiplier is applied after each action’s scores are aggregated, so this is distinct from exact in-game damage with rounding for each opponent.

It remains unverified whether effects triggered after a successful attack are reproduced correctly when type restrictions or other rules block that attack’s damage. Candidates that depend on such effects will be checked again once the stage rules are known.

Move animations, gauge waits, accuracy and chance effects, maintenance and expiry of opponents’ status conditions and interference, opponent HP, durability, survival, and round transitions are not fully simulated. Neither the 25% opponent HP increase nor defensive benefits are added to the reference firepower index.

We will add an analysis after Silvally and Raichu arrive

How will adding Arc Suit Gladion & Silvally and Arc Suit Hau & Raichu affect teams for these eight types? After their release, we plan to recalculate under the same 270-second, support-required conditions and update this article with changes in firepower, support choices, durability, and move-gauge support.

This comparison uses the currently published calculation data. Neither new pair’s upcoming effects are added to these values, and no conclusion is drawn about their strength after release.
